Meet Wadi Ben-Hirki, a youth activist, development workers, writer and public speaker. She is a 24 year old who is the Team Leader of Wadi Ben-Hirki (WBH) Foundation and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in International Education and Development at the University of Sussex, United Kingdom. 

Wadi believes that everyone deserves a fighting chance because we are all human and having a proper education gives us the power to make the world better. 

What she's done in the past...

Over the years Wadi has been nominated on several occasions and has volunteered for organisations that focus on education, gender, equality and peace, which are her passions. In 2016, she participated in the African Union’s Regional Consultation on Human Rights with a major focus on Women’s Rights.

In 2017 Wadi was the focal point of Canada High Commission’s  #SheCANLead campaign in Nigeria.

She was awarded the Ribena Good Values Awards Hero 2018, Her Network Woman of the Future Award 2017, The Ebony Life TV Sisterhood Advocate and People’s Choice of the Year Awards 2017, Top 10 young people in Africa working towards achieving Gender Justice and Reconciliation Award and Civil Society Award 2017.

She was a youth delegate at the Global Partnership for Education Financing Conference 2018 and served as a Special Guest on education & skills for the 21st century at the Y20 Summit 2018. She also participated in the 2018 United States Institute of Peace (USIP) Generation Change Fellowship with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

What's she working on right now…

Wadi is a 2021 Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work Regional Finalist and is the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) Representative for the G(irls)20 Summit 2020.

Wadi is an Ashoka change maker and served as a ONE Campaign champion for two years. She also sits on the African Leadership Institute Youth Advisory Board and serves as a Country Representative for the Chatham House Common Futures Conversations. She is a recipient of Your Best Life scholarship program. 

Wadi has been nominated on several occasions and has volunteered for a few organisations that focus on education, gender equality and peace which are her major areas of knowledge, interest and expertise. Her passion has led to her voice being heard on Aljazeera, BBC and Agence-France Presse among others.

Its safe to say Wadi is a wonderful young woman who is constantly thriving not only to make herself better for the world but make the world better for itself as well. She has been trained by the Satyagraha Institute on non-violence, peace building and conflict resolution and the Youth Organising School on policy advocacy & civic engagement.
